Ask about your network →Before a device connects to an ad or tracking hostname, it asks DNS for the address. The resolver checks that hostname against the configured policy. If it is blocked, the connection is not completed. This works across many browsers and apps because the decision happens at the network lookup stage.
No DNS filter can reliably remove every ad. When advertising and wanted content come from the same hostname—as often happens with YouTube, Instagram or sponsored social posts—blocking the hostname would also block the content. DNS filtering is strongest against third-party ad and tracker domains.
It reduces connections to known tracking and analytics domains. It does not hide a subscriber’s public IP address, encrypt all internet traffic or replace a VPN. Its role is to stop selected domain lookups before a connection begins.
The family policy blocks domains classified as adult or explicit and can apply safer search behavior where supported. Classification is domain-based, so no automated filter is a substitute for device supervision and appropriate family rules.
Devices using the ISP-managed resolver receive the same DNS policy, including devices that cannot run a browser extension. A device using its own outside DNS, a VPN or some encrypted-DNS configurations may bypass network filtering unless your network policy accounts for it.
