RADIUS CoA and Disconnect for ISP Sessions

Changing the stored subscriber policy does not necessarily change an active session. CoA or disconnect can apply a new state, but only when the NAS, identifiers and network path support it.

Use the interface and documentation together.

The capture below shows the related ISPbills product area. Follow the linked documentation for current fields and prerequisites, then validate the exact device, provider, software version, failure path and rollback before production use.

Plan the complete path, not one isolated setting.

Plan RADIUS Change of Authorization and disconnect workflows for package updates, suspension and controlled subscriber session changes. Confirm the exact device, software version, provider contract and failure behavior in a representative environment before production rollout.

01

Identify the active session

Use stable session, username and NAS context to target the intended connection.

02

Request the change

Send a supported CoA or disconnect action from an authorized source.

03

Verify the outcome

Confirm the NAS response and resulting session or policy state before reporting success.

Prove the boundaries before automating them.

Record expected results, failure signals, the person who can approve a change, and the rollback path. Product support depends on the deployed architecture and integration version.

Implementation answers

What is RADIUS CoA?

Change of Authorization requests a compatible NAS to alter policy for an existing session.

Is disconnect the same as suspension?

No. Disconnect ends a current session; suspension changes whether a subsequent session is eligible.

What if the NAS does not support CoA?

Use the documented device-specific workflow or require reconnection, and make that behavior clear to operators.

Validate with your own environment
